Delete your Waffle account

You don’t need the app for this — only the email address you use to sign in to Waffle.

Waffle is published by Waffle Corp.

  1. Enter your email address below.
  2. Open the link we mail you. It works for 60 minutes.
  3. On the page it opens, type delete my account. Nothing is deleted until you do.

What is deleted

  • Everything Waffle stores for your account in the cloud: your synced notes and files, their history, your devices’ sign-ins, shared folders you own that nobody else uses, and the account itself.
  • The keys Waffle holds for your account are destroyed before anything else, so what remains on our servers can’t be opened by a new device.

What is kept, and for how long

  • 30 days: our nightly backup still holds your account’s rows until it expires.
  • Indefinitely: a random 32-byte number that identified your account, and when it was deleted, so no new account can ever take its place. It contains nothing about you.
  • For the life of the folder: in shared folders other people own, the record that you were a member — your invitations, your access (now ended) and what you added there are theirs to keep.
  • For the life of those folders: the public keys other members use to check what you shared with them. They open nothing.
  • Until its current owner erases it: a folder you started and handed to someone else still names you as the one who started it. A folder you owned alone is deleted, leaving only a 32-byte fingerprint so it can’t be recreated.
  • Indefinitely: a shared folder whose hand-over was left unfinished, which nobody can now erase. The receipt names any such folder.

Our hosting provider also keeps records of its own — its sign-in audit log and its own backups — which Waffle cannot see into or measure. The receipt lists them.

What stays with you

  • Your files on your own computers and phones. Waffle never deletes them — they are ordinary files in an ordinary folder, and you can keep or delete them yourself.
  • A device where you are still signed in keeps its own copy of your keys until you remove Waffle’s data there, and a recovery code you wrote down is still on paper.

If you own a shared folder

If you own a folder other people still use, it has to be handed over or erased first, and that needs a device where you are signed in to Waffle. This page will tell you if that applies. If you no longer have a device, write to support@waffle.page.
